As you may have read from the download description, this is a beta version of HTML.edit. As such, not all features work as described, and the Help text is incomplete, especially as regards some of the new features such as the Anchor Utility or various Preferences settings.
The whole purpose of a beta is to find bugs and fix them before a full release of the product. Since this is a freeware product, it is also to solicit suggestions for improvements from both the technically oriented as well as the completely "green". As such, I value all comments that lead to an improvement in user friendliness, functionality and overall usefullness.
HTML editing is not simply word processing, and given the evolving nature of the language and the different ways that browsers implement HTML features, there may be times when perfectly "legal" HTML doesn't create what you think it should on a given browser.
I'm not in a position time-wise to solve these types of problems. I'm really only interested (as you should be too) in creating documents that conform to the most current HTML specification, not in how a specific browser implements a feature.
Eventually this editor will support all the features of HTML 2.0 level 2 and possibly HTML+. Until that time I am concentrating on HTML 2.0 levels 0 and 1, which is essentially all of the 2.0 DTD minus support for forms and tables. Yes, there is even an HTML 3.0 in the works. Please consult the many online guides or the built-in A Beginner's Guide to HTML for more information on producing good code.
A Request
I'm making this beta version of the editor freely available with two stipulations, which of course I can only request:
1. If you decide to beta test, I'd appreciate any feedback you have on improvements. I'm aware of the missing or obsolete sections in the Help system, and have also left the ToDo list filled with others.
2. Before you make a comment or bug report, please check the Web page describing the product to see which bugs have already been reported. Getting twenty email messages on the same thing wastes all our time. The HTML.edit Web page is
